Many people visit the Silk Road for the Linden Blossom Festival. Palm trees line the way as well as many traders and stalls.

Let's play! Families and children are invited to play in the alleyways of the atmospheric historical foundation grounds and in the Lindenhof at this year's popular Lindenblütenfest at the Francke Foundations.

The Festival

Guests of all ages can look over the shoulders of craftspeople as they practise their historical trades and have the opportunity to try their hand at it themselves. In between, traders offer pieces of jewellery made from Bohemian forest glass, silver jewellery, bouquets made from local flowers, wooden household goods, plant-dyed wool or colourful pottery in the historic market bustle. Traditionally, well-known artists such as Josefine Cyranka and Katrin Röder from the local cultural scene mingle with the festival stands with their creative offerings. Guests young and old can really enjoy playing on the construction playground, the water playground or the wood and workshop playground, with street and outdoor games, on the sound playground, on the research playground or the painting and art playground, and of course with sports games and free play.

Stage Programme

Two stages offer an amazing programme on both days:

Birger Markuse, director, pantomime and theatre teacher, will slip into the role of August Hermann Francke in a wig and gown. Together with the founder of the secondary school, Gottfried Semler - an imaginative inventor who is always coming up with a new idea - and a Glaucha citizen addicted to gambling, he will once again bring stories from history to the stage with a twinkle in his eye.

Toni Geiling is this year's star guest with songs for children and adults. He invites you to the ‘Cloud Factory’ on the children's stage at the upper Lindenhof on Sunday, 9 June 2024 at 12 noon and 2 pm. This is also where market woman Florentine Siebenzwiebel prepares for the fairytale hour and, together with her, numerous young artists from the Francke Foundations' kindergartens, After-School Care Centre and sports club, the Musiketage and music branch of the Latina, the theatre group from the community school and the children's group from the PostTurn sports club prepare for their performances.

When the hands-on stands of the Francke Foundations' institutions and their partners close at 7 pm on Saturday, the magic of the evening begins in the Lindenhof. Music by Krambambuli and »Swing mit Sahne«, living history and breathtaking acrobatics of the »Albert Sisters« in a laser light show promise real time travel.
