Special guided tour on women in the Francke Foundations

Contemporary depiction of Catharina Margaretha Linck in men's and women's clothing (1720)

When it comes to the history of the Francke Foundations, the focus is usually on male actors. However, women have played an important role from the very beginning - both in Pietism and in the Glauchaschen Anstalten. They contributed independently to the organizational, political, financial, social and emotional development of the institutions. The education of girls in particular was an essential part of August Hermann Francke's reform work. In this tour, we would like to give an insight into the everyday life and work of important women at the Francke Foundations. We will introduce female writers, patrons and teachers who had a lasting influence on Pietist life.
