Winter holidays in the Francke Foundations
Education
Discover the night sky, learn tricks for the perfect photo, preserve happiness in jars or save the memory of the objects in the Wunderkammer - join us!
During the winter holidays we invite children, young people, families and guests with a special programme:
EXHIBITIONS: Our exhibitions are open Tuesday-Sunday 10am-5pm. The special exhibition ‘Totally real. The discovery of visualisation’ opens for the last time during the winter holidays. In short film stories on YouTube, the director of the planetarium, Dirk Schlesier, explains the historical instruments for observing the sky shown in the exhibition. He whets the appetite for discovering the night sky for yourself. The first luminous celestial bodies can already be seen in the late afternoon sky.
Tayé the crocodile asks for help in front of the Chamber of Art and Natural History: Rochus, the ray-skin figure in the collection, has lost his memories. Children and families can rescue history from oblivion. At the new hands-on station in front of the Wunderkammer, they are invited to develop their own creative solution to the task together. The interactive audio plays on a total of 20 objects in the CAbinet of Artefacts and Natural Curiosities are also available online for the next Wunderkammer adventures at home.
In the Historical Library, the exhibition ‘Archivophilia. Schönes aus dem Archiv der Franckeschen Stiftungen’ allows an insight into a collection that is primarily accessible to scholars. Oriental and medieval manuscripts with their ornate calligraphy and delicate illustrations transport the viewer to another world. With their fine lettering on valuable parchment paper, documents are masterpieces of the art of writing. Covers made of coloured paper turn files into true works of art. Plan drawings not only document the building activity at the Francke Foundations, but also convey an impression of past master craftsmanship with their precise lines and colourfulness.
At the JUGENDCLUB TiQ- Treff im Quartier, Leipzig photographer Thomas Meinicke is hosting a photography workshop for young people on 28 and 29 January 2025 as part of the participation project meinehood_halle. Participants will not only learn interesting facts about photography and design, but will also take photos and experiment with their own mobile phones. Their favourite motif will be transferred to wood and can be taken home as their own art object.
On the other days, a hiking excursion with outdoor activities is planned in the heath and the creative programme will involve preserving happiness in jars. All activities at the TiQ are free of charge, written registration is mandatory.
The KINDERKREATIVZENTRUM KROKOSEUM is preparing for the summer and is hosting the Kinderstadt Halle. As last year, children will be working on the programme for the open-air simulation game in various workshops. Registrations are no longer possible!
